Same-sex couples can get a prenuptial agreement

Are you marrying a person of the same sex? If so, this doesn’t change the fact that getting a prenuptial agreement could be in your best interest.

This is not something that is easy to discuss, but it can go a long way in putting both people at ease regarding what they own and how it would be treated in the event of a divorce.

Due to complex same-sex marriage laws, a prenuptial agreement is often a must. Not only does it give both people peace of mind, but it could help avoid a seriously messy situation in the event of a divorce or death.

It’s never easy to talk about a prenuptial agreement, especially with so much excitement regarding your engagement. However, if both parties want to do what is best, they will take this into consideration. Remember, you are trying to be responsible. You are not trying to harm your loved one.

It is only natural to be concerned about what would happen to assets you bring into a marriage. While you don’t want to think about the possibility of divorce or death, you never know what will happen while you are married.

Our lawyers know the ins and outs of same-sex marriage, including the benefits of a prenuptial agreement. If this is something you want to consider, our “Asset Protection” webpage can provide you with the information you need. It won’t be long before you are learning more about same-sex marriage, prenuptial agreements, asset protection and what is best for you and your partner.
